
Monument to Gaetano Donizetti ---
The Monument to Gaetano Donizetti is located in the garden of Piazza Cavour, in Bergamo Bassa, right next to the Teatro Donizetti. It is positioned in the middle of the water feature that adorns the square, known by Bergamasque residents as the "swan lake". From a compositional point of view, it develops along a circular line determined by a curved bench, on which the musician sits, facing the inspiring muse Melopea (from ancient Greek melopoièo, "to compose songs, to make music"). The upper part, entirely in marble, is positioned on a granite base, decorated with a staircase and vegetable and animal friezes.
