Piazza Pontida ---
Piazza Pontida is the heart of the San Leonardo district, where five roads converge. For several centuries this space represented Bergamo's main commercial area: it was also known as "Piazza della Legna," precisely because it was the primary trading place for this precious material, largely coming from Val Brembana. Over time, numerous shops were joined by trattorias and cafés, which occupied many of the existing premises especially between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Today the square is the perfect place to enjoy a fantastic aperitivo, surrounded by a picturesque and characteristic frame of colorful buildings, on whose facades time has rendered poetry. The day can be best concluded by trying the cuisine of the numerous restaurants in the area!
