Polyptych of San Martino ---
Located inside the Basilica of San Martino in Treviglio, which dates back to the 5th century and was later expanded over time. The Polyptych dates from the period between the late 1400s and early 1500s, painted by Bernardino Butinone and Bernardo Zenale. Its excellent state of preservation is due to chance: it was moved from above the altar to its base, and the dim light of this new position preserved it. The wooden panel is painted with a trompe-l'œil portico with Saints looking out from it; at the center you see San Martino giving his cloak to a poor man. You can recognize the Gothic elements in the abundant use of gold and the Renaissance ones in the composition of the figures: a particular combination but very successfully executed!
