Palazzo Nuovo closes like a theatrical backdrop the side of Piazza Vecchia situated beyond Via Colleoni; it is called this in contrast to Palazzo Vecchio or della Ragione, situated on the opposite side of the square. Its construction spans three centuries: it begins in 1604 and is completed in 1928. And for three centuries as well, until 1873, the building was the seat of the Municipality of Bergamo. Since 1928 it has housed within its rooms one of Italy's most important libraries, the Civica Angelo Mai, which preserves parchments, manuscripts, incunabula, and music of inestimable value. Inside, in the Tassiana hall, you can admire the wonderful globes created by Vincenzo Maria Coronelli, cosmographer of the Republic of Venice. They date from 1688 and 1692, have a circumference of almost 3 and a half meters and
