If you've already arrived from downtown Bergamo Bassa to Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe in Città Alta by taking the first funicular, don't stop your ascent: venture onto the second one and visit the San Vigilio hill! This facility indeed leads to a little-frequented area but one that is truly worth reaching as it is immersed in greenery and a privileged starting point for walks within the wonderful Parco dei Colli, a protected green area of no less than 4,700 hectares. Discovering the San Vigilio Hill and the Parco dei Colli Inaugurated on August 27, 1912, the funicular was designed by Alessandro Ferretti, one of the most important Italian engineers of the time, who designed and built numerous funiculars.
