Temple of the Evangelical Community (Waldensian) ---

Located in Città Bassa opposite the headquarters of the Banca d'Italia, the Temple is the place of worship for Bergamo's Protestant community. It was built in the second half of the nineteenth century according to a design by architect Giacomo Frizzoni. The inauguration took place, as the inscription in the atrium recalls, on April 30, 1876. Thus came into being the second Protestant place of worship in Lombardy, second only to that of Milan. At the time of the laying of the final stone, the Reformed Community of Bergamo was barely sixty-nine years old. It had been officially founded in the Napoleonic era (1807) by a group of Protestant merchants and entrepreneurs, of Swiss origin like the majority of the reformed who settled in the city; the most eminent among these were also financiers of the Temple, through territorial donations
