Teatro S. Andrea ---

Located on one of the most characteristic streets of Bergamo Alta, the Teatro S. Andrea has a particular history, rich in surprises, faith and culture. It is situated in the crypt of the homonymous church, built between 1840 and 1847 on the basis of an eighth-century A.D. building. During the construction work, the walking level was raised above street level and, at the same time, an excavation on the side of the hill made it possible to gain additional depth, thanks to which an underground space could be created beneath the church. The space was used for approximately a century to preserve works from other places of worship, as well as from the pre-existing one. The first version of the Teatro S. Andrea was created at the behest of parish priest Antonio Galizzi who, in 1951, had a cinema theater built in the crypt.
