Sanctuary of the Madonna di Altino ---

Located at 850 meters on Monte Altino and positioned at a crossroads of valleys (Val Cavallina to the east, Val Gandino and Valle Rossa to the north, Val Seriana to the west, and Valle del Lujo to the south) stands the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Monte Altino. The origins of the Sanctuary of Altino date back to the apparition of the Madonna that occurred on July 23, 1496, on a scorching day, during which an inhabitant of Vall'Alta prayed to the Madonna for water, and after the apparition of the Blessed Virgin, a stream of water gushed forth like a spring from the rock. Behind the Sanctuary there is a small fountain where the water from the spring is channeled and can be drawn by pilgrims as a gift from Mary. On July 23, the "Apparition" is celebrated.
