Sanctuary of the Madonna della Castagna ---

The Sanctuary stands at the foot of the hills that extend from Bergamo towards Sombreno and is preceded by a tree-lined avenue. Surrounded by low, green hills, it is the ideal destination for a moment of spiritual reflection or for a day trip. According to tradition, the Madonna herself, appearing to a peasant at work, expressed the desire that a small chapel be built on this land. In the eighteenth century, the institute of the hermits of charity was founded in the Sanctuary and spread as charitable work in all material and spiritual forms, even towards those priests in need. The Sanctuary's feast day is celebrated on the day of the Apparition, which occurred on April 28th, and the Assumption is celebrated with particular solemnity on August 15th.
