Sanctuary of Madonna del Castello ---
Built perched over the Brembo river on the site of an ancient castle, the church (16th century) overlooks a vast panorama and is set against the ancient Pieve di San Salvatore (7th century), one of the best-preserved examples of pre-Romanesque architecture in the Bergamo area. Through two side staircases, you can access the crypt, the oldest in the province, which preserves the unaltered atmosphere of ancient places of worship. Rectangular in plan, it is divided transversely by four columns with capitals partly possibly recovered from a pre-existing Roman building. Inside are visible frescoes dating from the 10th to 16th centuries and a 12th-century sandstone ambo.
