Basella Sanctuary ---

The Basella Sanctuary near Urgnano, in the mid-plain of the Bergamo area, was built in commemoration of an apparition of the Madonna that occurred in 1356. Around 1460, Bartolomeo Colleoni arranged for an enlargement of the church, to which a convent of Dominican friars was annexed, sent in 1462 from the monastery of Santo Stefano di Bergamo, with the task of assisting and safeguarding the sanctuary.
