Piazzetta S. Pancrazio ---

Medieval Italian cities were divided into neighborhoods, called vicinie in Bergamo. They took their names from the local church, elected consuls, and were responsible for assistance, public order, the upkeep of the church, and the market. The small square of the S. Pancrazio vicinia has at its center a fountain designed in 1549 by Leonardo Isabello, son of Pietro Isabello, who was the author of many palaces and churches in the city. The Civic Library still preserves on parchment the records of the assemblies of the S. Pancrazio neighbors held in the 13th century.
