
Medolago Albani Palace ---
As you stroll along the Mura Veneziane of Bergamo Alta, reaching the height of Porta S. Giacomo, you will be able to admire the magnificent Medolago Albani Palace. Once belonging to the counts Vailetti, who were granted the title in 1695 by the Duke of Parma Francesco Farnese, it was originally a palace in sixteenth-century style. The last of the Vailetti, Luigi, decided to have the residence razed to the ground in order to build a completely new one. The project was entrusted in 1770 to Simone Cantoni, an architect of Ticino origins who also authored Villa Olmo in Como. After overcoming the considerable difficulties created, among other things, by the marked difference in land level, the result was finally a splendid example of a neoclassical palace.
