Church of Sant'Alessandro della Croce ---

Walking along the long via Pignolo, a medieval street in Bergamo that connects the Lower City to the beginning of the Upper City, you will suddenly arrive at a small square overlooking the Church of Sant'Alessandro della Croce. Legend has it that its first construction dates back to the time of Alessandro's martyrdom in the 4th century; between the 17th and 18th centuries it was completed internally, while the facade, which remained unfinished, is from a later period and was built only in 1922. It takes the name "della Croce" because it was built at the intersection of four medieval boroughs. It houses one of Bergamo's most significant collections of paintings, among which we highlight two works by Gian Battista Moroni: the Coronation of the Virgin positioned on the counter-facade and the Crucifixion with the Saints
