In the heart of the historic center of Gandino, on via Emancipazione, the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta is one of the most important architectural monuments in the Bergamo area. Built in the 15th century to meet the needs of a constantly growing population, it was restructured in the early years of the 17th century. The basilica was consecrated in 1654 and dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. The exterior is a composition of volumes finished with local stone and highlighted in their geometric form by pilasters and stone borders. Majestic are the large Lombard tiburio and the tall hexagonal bell tower with onion dome. The interior contains elements from the Venetian area, from the Central European area (an example being the onion dome of the bell tower) and from the Lombard area.
