Benedictine Abbey of San Paolo d'Argon ---

Upon entering the Abbey, you will encounter a delightful small Renaissance cloister, decorated in terracotta with finely inlaid column capitals, most likely the work of Pietro Isabello, the greatest Bergamo architect of the era. The refectory of 1536 is certainly his work, frescoed in 1624 by the Veronese Giovanni Battista Lorenzetti. The second cloister is much more spacious, with 32 columns arranged on a rectangular plan. The Church is a wonderful example of seventeenth-century style, starting from its marble façade; once you cross the threshold, you are greeted by the majestic nave with its six side chapels, many paintings by the most important artists of the period, and altars in inlaid marble.
